What is Duralcan®?
The composite material Duralcan® is a series of aluminum alloys, that are chemically particle reinforced and suitable for high-pressure die casting.
Advantages of Duralcan®
The mechanical properties of items made from Duralcan® surpass most other items made from aluminum, magnesium, and zinc.
The most favourable features of Duralcan® are its breaking strength, stiffness, wear resistance, and thermal conductivity. This is because the aluminum alloy is reinforced with up to 20% silicon carbide (SiC) fibres. In addition, items in Duralcan® have improved tensile- and fatigue properties at elevated temperatures as well as low-density and thermal expansion coefficients
Some of the problems with weight restrictions can be solved with Duralcan® composites. Due to the material's unusual strength and stiffness, it can replace heavier materials such as iron, steel, and bronze.
The tensile strength of Duralcan® composites is also greatly improved compared to reinforced aluminum alloys such as A380 and A390. The fatigue strength is also increased with plaster castings, compared to alloy A356. Further, they can be compared to forged alloys such as AL 2041 and AL 6061.
