Sunglasses to promote career opportunities in the plastics industry

The plastics and toolmaking education programmes will be at Skills Denmark 2024 in April and want to get in touch with young people and show them, that there are good career opportunities in the plastics industry.

They want to show how fascinating the injection moulding process and the technology surrounding it is. At the same time, they want to give visitors a gift as a small memento of their visit to the stand. It had to be something, that would also be useful afterward, which is where the idea of a pair of sunglasses came up.

From idea to finished tool in two weeks

In January, the Danish Plastics Federation came to Idé-Pro with the idea of the sunglasses, which they needed to realise. Naturally, we were happy to help and in just two weeks, the tool for the sunglasses was ready to be tested in injection moulding on one of our injection moulding machines in our plastics production. The sunglasses and the tool for them were developed by one of our skilled tool designers. About the collaboration, Rasmus Grusgaard, Senior Consultant at the Danish Plastics Federation, says:

''Idé-Pro has been a fantastic partner. They have been incredibly fast and creative partners. Firstly, in deciding to agree to contribute. Then helping to realise our eyewear design, including a highly inventive plastic hinge to avoid metal. And last but not least, providing tooling and moulding data so that the frames and temples can be moulded with the young people at Skills Denmark and give everyone a great experience. And a nice pair of sunglasses.''

A complete plastic solution

As mentioned, the sunglasses are designed to be made entirely of plastic, and both the frame and temples are injection moulded at the same time, in the same tool. As a little extra detail, the websites for the plastic and toolmaking programmes are moulded into separate rods for the sunglasses.

A live demo of injection moulding

The tool for the sunglasses will be sent with the Danish Plastics Federation to Skills Denmark, where they will show visitors a live demo of injection moulding on an injection moulding machine. Afterward, visitors can assemble their sunglasses by simply clicking the bars on the frame.
