Injection moulding of PP

Lightweight and economical material for many applications

PP (polypropylene) is one of the most frequently used materials in injection moulding. It is a lightweight, chemical-resistant and affordable type of thermoplastic and is suitable for both simple and complex parts.

The material has a low density and is therefore often used for larger injection moulded parts and products where weight is essential. PP is also often used in the food industry and works well for both prototypes and series production.

Injection moulded plastic parts

When PP is the right material for injection moulding

Injection moulding in PP provides parts with good mechanical properties, short cycle times, relatively low weight and good chemical resistance. With the economic advantages of PP, it is an excellent material for injection moulding of plastic parts, why it is also one of the most popular.

Efficient injection moulding of small and large plastic parts

PP is easy to injection mould and is suitable for both small parts and larger plastic parts. The material enables short cycle times and stable production in larger series. Injection-moulded parts in PP can also be customised by colouring or marking directly in the injection moulding machine, depending on the product requirements.

When PP is the right material for injection moulding

Low density and modification

As mentioned earlier, PP has a low density, which makes the material ideal for injection moulded parts where lower weight is important. Especially for larger items. PP can be modified with, for example, talc or glass fibre (GF). This provides increased rigidity, improved dimensional stability and adapted strength depending on the application.

Injection-moulded parts with good chemical resistance

With good resistance to chemicals, moisture and many types of liquids, PP is a good choice for injection moulding when parts will be used in exposed environments or where frequent cleaning is required. Therefore, PP is often used in applications within the food industry, where high standards of cleanliness are required.
