Injection moulding with Ku-Fizz

Lighter plastic parts, same strength

Ku-Fizz is an advanced foaming technology that can be used for injection moulding of plastics when low weight and high quality are important factors. By combining injection moulding with Ku-Fizz, we can injection mould plastic parts with lower weight without compromising on strength or function.

How injection moulding with Ku-Fizz works

Ku-Fizz is a type of physical foaming in which gas, usually nitrogen or carbon dioxide, is added directly to the molten plastic in the injection moulding machine. When the gas-filled melt is injected into the tool a pressure drop occurs, causing the gas to expand.

The expansion creates a light, foamed structure inside the part, while the surface retains its shape and quality. As the gas in the melt expands and fills the tool, less plastic is used in production without affecting strength or shape.

Advantages of Ku-Fizz in injection moulding

The technology provides clear advantages in injection moulding of plastic parts, where weight, stability and cost-effectiveness are priorities.

Lower weight and reduced material consumption

How injection moulding with Ku-Fizz works

With Ku-Fizz, the weight of injection-moulded plastic parts can be reduced by up to 10-15 per cent. As less plastic is used per part, material costs are also reduced, making the technology particularly interesting for larger or heavier parts.

Improved quality and dimensional stability

The foaming gives the part a uniform structure and reduces the risk of sink marks. Sink marks are dents in the plastic surface that can occur due to uneven cooling or material shrinkage and affect both the appearance and tolerances of parts. The result is plastic parts with precise dimensions and uniform quality, even with larger geometries.

Efficient injection moulding of plastic parts

The method is suitable for injection moulding, where weight can otherwise be a limitation. By combining low weight with retained strength, the technology enables efficient production of plastic parts.

When Ku-Fizz is the right injection moulding technique

If you want a low part weight, Ku-Fizz is an excellent solution. The technology is particularly advantageous in the automotive industry, where weight reduction is crucial. It is also suitable for injection moulding larger parts, or when quality and dimensional stability are important.

If you need parts with a hard and strong base combined with a soft outer layer, we recommend 2K injection moulding of PA6/TPU.

Idé-Pro's capacity in injection moulding with Ku-Fizz

We have installed Ku-Fizz systems on two of our Demag injection moulding machines with a clamping force of 1,000 T and 2,700 T respectively.

We injection mould both prototypes and production parts, and with our high capacity in the plastics production and many years of experience, you are assured of fast delivery and high quality.
